Demand for English teachers in China is hemorrhaging. Within two to three decades China will have more English speakers than any other country. 20% of the country’s 1.3 billion people are learning the language already. And because most Chinese prefer to learn English from native speakers (Americans, British, Canadians, etc.), if you’re a citizen of one of these countries you are ensured a wide range of teaching possibilities.

The Chinese Ministry of Education identifies 1,396 undergraduate and universities and almost 94,000 secondary schools in China. Almost all are involved in English instruction. Yet as Chinese public secondary schools usually don’t have the funds to pay even minimal foreign teacher salaries, the overwhelming majority of English teaching jobs for foreigners are in universities. Other positions can be found with private secondary schools (Foreign Experts specialty) and for-profit language schools (which Foreign Experts doesn’t partner with – see link below).
